Studies on the Growing and Over Yearing of allium bakeri REGEL in Sandy Barren Lands

Abstract
An experiment concerning with the over yearing rate of Allium bakeri REGEL in winter was conducted on Han-river riverside for the utilization of sandy barren land of about 32 million ha. in Korea.
This results were summarized as follows;
1) For the rate of over yearing in respect to the depth of sowing, 14§¯ depth seemed to be most effective than any other treatment (5§¯, 8§¯ and 11§¯ depth of sowing). 11§¯ depth of sowing showed, however, better growth on the weight of bulb in harvest.
2) The clay mulching (1-2§¯) increased the rate of over yearing and weight of bulbs, significantly, compared with polyethylene film mulching, gravel (1-2§¯ diameter) mulching, strawbag mulching and control.
3) It was concluded that sandy barren lands of riverside in Korea was possible to utilize by an economical growing of Allium bakeri REGEL etc.
